Gesture and Posture ―― Words to Talk About Dance

On December 13, 2019, we invited dance researcher Yurika Kuremiya to Mita Campus to discuss questions about the ways to see a contemporary dance.

Capturing and interpreting the movements of dance are mainly based on a discursive approach which the audience makes to them.

With relevant examples, Ms.Kuremiya demonstrated various ways of the discursive approach which could be called historical, methodological, comparative ones.

The discursive approaches are also indispensable for some choreographers such as Rudolf Laban who tried to capture the body movements in a space with a dance notation.
