Japanese Translation of Günther Heeg’s Book Das transkulturelle Theater has been published
Das transkulturelle Theater (Theater der Zeit, 2017) by Günther Heeg, theatre scholar and emeritus professor at Leipzig University, was translated by the seminar members (Ishimi Shu, Kitagawa Chikako, Kurina Kurita, Masayuki Tsuzaki, Mariko Harigai, Eiichiro Hirata, Mai Miyake and Ehito Terao) and published by Sangensha under the title ekkyô bunka engeki/越境文化演劇.
The book discusses the importance of theatre in the current global situation, which is caught between economic globalization and nationalism, and the need to create a future-oriented, open community that is different from the current situation.
The website of the publisher Sangensha introduces the book as follows: It investigates the playful power of theatre which can dismantle the illusion of fundamentalism. In a current global situation where globalization and fundamentalism are geared, practices and thoughts of theatre can take us beyond multiculturalism to coexistence with the different and the other.
