The Book Theatre and Democracy: Interactive Discourse in Theatre Studies and Political Science has been published.

The book Theatre and Democracy: Interactive Discourse in Theatre Studies and Political Science (edited by Mariko Harigai, Eiichiro Hirata and Chikako Kitagawa), which contains essays by members of this seminar, German theatre scholars and political scientists, has just been published by Sangensha.

The contributors to the book are Veronika Darian, Shu Ishimi, Mai Miyake, Gerard Siegmund, Shinichi Tabata, Shintaro Tamate, Tetsuki Tamura and Kei Yamamoto, in addition to the above three editors.

The Publisher Sangensha introduces the book as follows:

Theatre and democracy are intricately intertwined in their existence, just as the aspects of representation enable both theatre and democracy to function virtually. In the face of democracy in crises, eleven theatre scholars and political scientists search for a shift in political ideas that makes best use of the fictional and virtual aspects of theatre and theatricality.

We hope that the contributions will provide more opportunities to discuss democracy from the perspective of theatre and theatre from the perspective of democracy.
